What is FIRE?
FIRE — Financial Independence, Retire Early — is the point where your investments are large enough that a safe withdrawal each year covers your spending. The common rule of thumb is the 4% rule: your target is 25× your annual spending (because 4% of 25× equals one year of spending).
How this works
Your FIRE number = annual spending ÷ withdrawal rate. We then grow your current savings plus your monthly contributions at your expected return to estimate how many years until you reach that number.
Is the 4% rule guaranteed?
No — it's a historical guideline, not a promise. Markets, inflation and your spending all vary. Use a lower rate to be more conservative.
