How Norwegian tax works (2026)

Norway taxes salary in three parts: a flat 22% on your "ordinary income" (alminnelig inntekt) after deductions, a progressive bracket tax (trinnskatt) on your gross, and national insurance (trygdeavgift) at 7.6%. This calculator uses the official Skatteetaten rates for 2026.

The three components

Example: kr 600,000

On kr 600,000, the base tax is about kr 85,700, trinnskatt about kr 12,800 and trygdeavgift kr 45,600 — leaving a net pay of roughly kr 455,800 a year (about kr 38,000 a month), an effective rate near 24%.

Notes

What is trinnskatt?

A progressive "bracket tax" on your gross income that comes on top of the flat 22% base tax.

What is trygdeavgift?

National insurance contribution (7.6% for employees in 2026), which funds pensions and healthcare.
